Target Information
GPC3 is a cell surface proteoglycan that bears heparan sulfate. This protein may be involved in suppression or modulation of growth in mesodermal tissues and organs, and may modulate IGF2 receptor interactions. Members of the glypican family contain a core protein anchored to the membrane via a GPI linkage, playing roles in cell division, growth regulation, and tumor predisposition. Deletion mutations in GPC3 cause Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome (SGBS), characterized by pre- and postnatal overgrowth with visceral and skeletal anomalies.
