Target Information
The SMN complex plays a catalytic role in the assembly of small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential components of the spliceosome. This complex is crucial for splicing of cellular pre-mRNAs. Most spliceosomal snRNPs contain Sm proteins (SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF, SNRPG) that form a heptameric ring on the Sm site of snRNA to create the core snRNP. In the cytosol, Sm proteins are held in an inactive 6S pICln-Sm complex by the chaperone CLNS1A. The SMN complex dissociates CLNS1A and transfers Sm proteins to an SMN-Sm complex, triggering core snRNP assembly and nuclear transport.
