P2RX2는 ATP에 반응하여 열리는 리간드 개폐 이온 채널 패밀리의 구성원으로, 각 수용체는 두 개의 막관통 도메인을 가진 3개의 서브유닛(P2X1-7)으로 이루어져 있습니다. P2RX2는 ATP 결합을 통해 신경과 평활근 간의 시냅스 전달을 매개하며, 6개의 전사 변이체가 알려져 있습니다.
P2RX2는 감각 뉴런의 흥분성 시냅스 반응, 신경근 접합부(NMJ) 형성, 청각, 미각 인지, 연동운동 등 다양한 세포 반응에 관여합니다. 내이에서는 음향 변환, 청각 신경전달, 외유모세포의 전기운동성, 내이 갭 접합 및 K(+) 재활용을 조절합니다. 관련 질환으로는 Deafness, Autosomal Dominant 41 및 Dfna41 Nonsyndromic Hearing Loss And Deafness가 보고되어 있습니다.
