Target Information
OLFM4 is a 510 amino acid extracellular matrix glycoprotein belonging to the olfactomedin-related protein family and found to be selectively expressed in inflamed colonic epithelium. It contains one signal peptide and six N-linked glycosylation motifs, forming disulfide-bonded multimers.
OLFM4 may function as a transcription factor with matrix-related roles in differentiation. Constitutive expression in cancer cells allows binding to GRIM-19, a potent apoptosis inducer, conferring antiapoptotic activity and potential as a diagnostic marker for human cancers. Reports indicate OLFM4 promotes proliferation of PANC-1 cells by facilitating transition from S to G2/M phase. Interaction with endogenous cell surface lectins and cadherins may mediate cell adhesion.
