Product Specific Information

  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed), incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10 mM Citrate Buffer (pH 6.0) for 10–20 minutes, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, also known as Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, and EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic lineages. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular domain containing multiple tandem repeats that vary between alleles (30–90 repeats), resulting in size heterogeneity.

MUC1 is highly expressed in more than 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases. It associates with all four erbB receptors and localizes with EGFR in lactating glands. Overexpression and aberrant glycosylation of MUC1 are associated with various carcinomas. Multiple alternatively spliced variants have been reported.
