Product Specific Information
The antibody is associated with fully differentiated tissue macrophages in both normal and diseased tissues, independent of inflammation. The antigen is absent on freshly isolated monocytes and other blood cells but appears after 6–7 days of monocyte culture. Some melanoma and carcinoma cell lines are also positive. The monoclonal antibody 25F9 cross-reacts with a subpopulation of macrophages of rhesus monkey, pig alveolar macrophages, and Kupffer cells.

Macrophages are specialized white blood cells responsible for detecting, engulfing, and destroying foreign substances, dead cells, and debris. Mature macrophages are distributed throughout various tissues, performing location-specific functions:
- Alveolar macrophages: Found in lungs; remove inhaled particles.
- Kupffer cells: Found in liver; remove old or damaged red blood cells.
