Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles responsible for protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
RPL23A is a ribosomal protein that forms part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L23P family. It is located in the cytoplasm and may play a role in growth inhibition mediated by interferon.
In yeast, the homologous protein binds to a specific site on the 26S rRNA. The RPL23A gene is co-transcribed with small nucleolar RNA genes U42A, U42B, U101A, and U101B, located in its introns.
