Target Information
The general transcription factor TFIIE plays an essential role in eukaryotic transcription initiation with RNA polymerase II and other general factors.
Human TFIIE consists of two subunits, TFIIE-alpha (57 kDa) and TFIIE-beta (34 kDa), joining the preinitiation complex after RNA polymerase II and TFIIF.
TFIIE-alpha is required for transcription initiation together with TFIIE-beta and can fully replace the natural subunit in vitro.
Its sequence includes structural motifs such as a leucine repeat, zinc finger, and helix-turn-helix, showing similarity to bacterial sigma factors, suggesting a role in transcription regulation.
