Store vial at –20°C prior to opening. Aliquot contents and refreeze at –20°C or below for long-term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Centrifuge if not clear after standing at room temperature. Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only before immediate use.

This affinity-purified antibody targets the amino-terminal end of beta amyloid and is effective for detecting human and mouse beta amyloid. Cross-reactivity with other species is possible but not determined.

Target Information

Amyloid beta peptide (Abeta/Beta-amyloid) is the major component of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. The peptide (40–43 amino acids) is derived from the beta-amyloid precursor protein (beta APP) through sequential cleavage by beta-secretase (BACE) and gamma-secretase. Gamma-secretase, a multi-subunit complex including presenilin-1/2 and nicastrin, mediates intramembrane cleavage to release Abeta.

Abeta forms extracellular filamentous deposits found in amyloid cores, neuritic plaques, and neurofibrillary tangles. Beta amyloid accumulation is associated with Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, Down’s syndrome, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and other amyloidoses.
