Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Individual human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20. Expression patterns vary by epithelial type and differentiation stage, making them useful markers in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are also valuable in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
