Mitochondrial inner membrane calcium uniporter (MCU)는 미토콘드리아 내 칼슘 흡수를 매개하는 단백질로, uniporter complex의 pore-forming 및 calcium-conducting 서브유닛입니다.
MICU1 및 MICU2에 의해 활성 조절을 받으며, 낮은 Ca²⁺ 농도에서는 억제되고 높은 농도에서는 활성화됩니다.
MCU는 세포 생리 조절, 에너지 항상성, 세포 사멸 경로 활성화에 중요한 역할을 하며, 심근세포의 칼슘 신호 완충, 췌장 베타세포의 인슐린 분비 조절, 골격근 세포의 근육 크기 유지 및 시냅스 소포 내포 과정에 관여합니다.
