Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, and is also secreted. Reduced expression increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced cell death and promotes proliferation. Initially thought to contain an arginine-rich region, later evidence showed a shorter open reading frame without this tract. Polymorphisms in this region, once considered tumor-related, are now known to occur in normal tissues.
