Target Information
The ARMET (also known as MANF) protein is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus, and is also secreted. Reduced expression increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced cell death and promotes cell proliferation. Initially thought to have a longer N-terminus with an arginine-rich region, later evidence supports a smaller open reading frame without the arginine tract. Polymorphisms previously associated with tumors were later found to occur in normal tissues, indicating they are not tumor-specific.
