Target Information

RARA (Retinoic Acid Receptor Alpha) is a receptor for retinoic acid. It forms heterodimers with RXR and binds to retinoic acid response elements (RARE) to regulate gene expression.
In the absence of ligand, RXR-RAR heterodimers recruit corepressors leading to transcriptional suppression. Upon ligand binding, coactivators replace corepressors, activating transcription.
RARA is essential for retinoic acid-induced germ cell development during spermatogenesis and contributes to skeletal growth and matrix homeostasis. It mediates retinoic acid-induced granulopoiesis and regulates gene expression in a ligand-dependent manner via chromatin complexes containing KMT2E/MLL5.
