Product Specific Information

The MQ2-13A5 antibody reacts with human interleukin-6 (IL-6), a 21–28 kDa cytokine secreted by various cell types.

Applications Reported:
This antibody is reported for use in intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and validated for intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product #88-8824-00) and corresponding BestProtocols® (Protocol A: Two-step protocol for cytoplasmic intracellular proteins).
Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.06 µg) per test (100 µL final volume, 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Fluorochrome Information:
Alexa Fluor® 700 emits at 723 nm and is excited by the red laser (633 nm).
Recommended optics: 685 LP mirror and 710/20 filter.
Excitation: 633–647 nm; Emission: 723 nm; Laser: Red.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.

Target Information

IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions.
Expression occurs at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where IL-6 stimulates transcriptional inflammatory responses through the IL-6 receptor alpha.
IL-6 function is linked to multiple inflammation-associated diseases, including diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Elevated IL-6 levels have been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19.
