Sirtuin 계열 단백질은 sirtuin core domain을 가지며 네 개의 클래스로 분류됩니다.
인간 sirtuin의 기능은 아직 명확히 규명되지 않았으나, yeast sirtuin 단백질은 후성유전적 유전자 침묵 및 rDNA 재조합 억제를 조절하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
연구 결과에 따르면 인간 sirtuin은 mono-ADP-ribosyltransferase 활성을 가진 세포 내 조절 단백질로 작용할 가능성이 있습니다.
