Target Information
Metadherin (MTDH, LYRIC) is a novel protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It participates in tight junction maturation rather than acting as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and xenografts, with lower levels in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via a C-terminal segment in the extracellular domain, and blocking this interaction has been shown to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
