Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids.
FARS2 is a mitochondrial phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) consisting of a single polypeptide chain, unlike the (alpha-beta)₂ structure of the cytoplasmic forms.
Structural and catalytic studies suggest mitochondrial PheRSs form a distinct class separate from prokaryotic and cytoplasmic counterparts.
FARS1 encodes a mitochondrially-located PheRS with similar characteristics.
