Product Specific Information

• Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration.
• For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below.
• Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing.
• Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
• Stable for several weeks at 4°C as undiluted liquid; dilute only prior to immediate use.

This antibody is specific for chicken IFN gamma protein.
BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with IFN gamma from:

• Ring-necked pheasant
• Turkey
• Quail
• Junglefowl

(based on 91–97% homology with the immunizing sequence).
Cross-reactivity with IFN gamma from other sources has not been determined.

Target Information

Interferon gamma (IFNγ, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens and cytokines.
It is a dimeric glycoprotein (two 146 amino acid subunits, ~45 kDa homodimer) showing species-specific biological activity.

Key Functions:

• Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
• Induction of MHC class I and II
• Macrophage activation
• Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
• Cytokine regulation and synergistic action with other cytokines

Activation occurs via IFNγ receptor I and II, leading to JAK-STAT pathway signaling.
Human IFNγ shows ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFNγ and no homology with IFNα or IFNβ.
Upregulated by IL2, FGF basic, EGF; downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN.
Mutations in the IFNγ gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
