Target Information

CELSR1 is a member of the flamingo subfamily, part of the cadherin superfamily.
The flamingo subfamily consists of nonclassic type cadherins that do not interact with catenins.
These cadherins are located at the plasma membrane and have:

• 9 cadherin domains
• 7 epidermal growth factor-like repeats
• 2 laminin A G-type repeats in their ectodomain
• 7 transmembrane domains, unique to this subfamily

CELSR1 is thought to function as a receptor involved in contact-mediated communication, with cadherin domains acting as homophilic binding regions and EGF-like domains contributing to cell adhesion and receptor-ligand interactions.
This gene is developmentally regulated and neural specific, playing a role in early embryogenesis.
