Target Information
Natural killer (NK) cells in teleosts and their evolutionary homologues are a subpopulation of lymphocytes with properties distinct from B- or T-cells. NK cells are key effectors of innate immunity, releasing cytokines that up-regulate other immune functions. Monoclonal antibodies help identify surface antigens on NK cells, which are used to classify functionally distinct subsets. The Cluster of Differentiation (CD) nomenclature standardizes NK cell identification.
