Product Specific Information
This antibody is predicted to react with bovine, mouse, rabbit, and rat based on sequence homology.
Heat-mediated antigen retrieval is recommended prior to staining using a 10 mM citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 10 minutes, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
After antigen retrieval, incubate samples with primary antibody for 10 minutes at room temperature.
A suggested positive control is breast carcinoma.
Target Information
MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic lineages.
It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large mucin-like extracellular domain that undergoes proteolysis and glycosylation, resulting in multiple polymorphic forms.
MUC1 is abundantly expressed in over 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases.
The gene contains seven exons and produces multiple alternatively spliced variants.
Overexpression and aberrant glycosylation of MUC1 are associated with various carcinomas.
