Target Information

Annexins are a family of calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins. Each annexin typically contains four internal repeat domains with type II calcium-binding sites, which are essential for aggregation and binding to anionic phospholipids and extracellular matrix proteins.
Annexin A9 is a divergent member of this family, with substitutions in all four calcium-binding sites that abolish their function. Despite this, structural analysis indicates that the conserved ion channel formed by the tetrad core remains intact.
