Target Information

Annexins are a family of calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins. Members of this family contain four internal repeat domains, each with a type II calcium-binding site, which are essential for aggregation and binding to anionic phospholipids and extracellular matrix proteins.
Annexin A9 is a divergent member of this family, where amino acid substitutions in all four calcium-binding sites ablate their function. Despite this, structural analysis indicates that the conserved ion channel structure formed by the tetrad core remains intact.
