Target Information
The ion channels activated by glutamate are typically divided into two classes:
- NMDA-sensitive channels (NMDA receptors, NMDAR)
- AMPA-activated channels (AMPA receptors, AMPAR)
AMPARs are composed of four distinct Glutamate Receptor Subunits (GluR1–4) and play key roles in excitatory neurotransmission in the brain. The GluR2 subunit is associated with synaptic plasticity such as long-term depression (LTD).
