Target Information
Peroxisomes are single membrane organelles involved in various biochemical pathways in eukaryotic cells. They modify toxins such as phenols, alcohols, and aldehydes, and mediate long-chain fatty acid metabolism via beta-oxidation. Loss of peroxisomal function can lead to disorders including Zellweger syndrome, hyperpipecolic acidemia, neonatal adrenoleukodystrophy, and infantile Refsum disease.
Peroxisomal membrane protein 70 (PMP70) is an abundant, integral protein of the peroxisome, induced by hypolipidemic agents along with peroxisome proliferation and stimulation of beta-oxidation enzymes.
