Target Information
Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) family proteins play critical roles in nuclear events that involve chromosome structural changes, including mitotic chromosome organization, DNA recombination and repair, and transcriptional repression.
SMC1 and SMC3 form a heterodimeric complex essential for metaphase progression and sister chromatid cohesion. Mutations in SMC1 can lead to Cornelia de Lange syndrome 2.
