Target Information
Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase that functions autonomously after Ca²⁺/calmodulin binding and autophosphorylation. It is involved in dendritic spine and synapse formation, neuronal plasticity, and regulation of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca²⁺ transport in skeletal muscle. In neurons, CaMKII gamma plays a structural role in actin cytoskeleton reorganization during plasticity, promoting dendritic spine formation and synaptic maintenance. It also contributes to skeletal muscle Ca²⁺ signaling and contractile regulation through phosphorylation of triadin and phospholamban.
