Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding and integral membrane glycoprotein present in presynaptic vesicles of nearly all neurons. It possesses four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin at high calcium concentrations, suggesting a role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis. Synaptophysin is involved in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity and is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and in differentiating neuroendocrine tumors. Mutations in the gene are associated with X-linked mental retardation.
