• Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding integral membrane glycoprotein present in presynaptic vesicles of almost all neurons. It has four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin at high calcium concentrations, suggesting involvement in synaptic vesicle endocytosis. It also plays a role in the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity. Synaptophysin is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and in differentiating neuroendocrine tumors. Mutations in the gene can result in mental retardation, X-linked 96.
