C8orf79 (chromosome 8 open reading frame 79) is a 454 amino acid protein that belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily and is encoded by a gene that maps to human chromosome 8p22.
Chromosome 8 encodes about 800 genes across approximately 146 million bases.
Translocation events involving chromosome 8 and c-Myc gene amplification have been observed in certain leukemias and lymphomas, typically associated with poor prognosis.
Additionally, portions of chromosome 8 have been linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
