Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This PTP has an extracellular region, a single transmembrane region, and an intracellular catalytic domain, representing a receptor-type PTP.
In mice, a similar gene is expressed predominantly in the brain, where it associates with and regulates MAP kinase activity and localization. The rat counterpart is regulated by nerve growth factor, suggesting a role in neuronal growth and differentiation.
