eIF5A는 번역 신장 과정에서 작용하는 mRNA 결합 단백질로, mRNA 턴오버 및 디캡핑 이후 단계에서 중요한 기능을 수행합니다. 또한 actin dynamics, 세포 주기 진행, mRNA decay, 스트레스 반응 및 세포벽 유지 경로에 관여합니다.
SDCBP와 함께 TP53/p53 및 TNF-α 매개 세포사멸을 조절하며, 신경세포 돌기 성장 및 생존, 뇌 발달, 골격근 줄기세포 분화에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 또한 HTLV-1 Rex 및 HIV-1 Rev 단백질의 세포 내 보조인자로서 레트로바이러스 전사체의 mRNA 수출에 필수적입니다.
