Target Information
The Ca²⁺/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases (CaM kinases) are a subfamily of serine/threonine kinases including CaMKI, CaMKII, and CaMKIV.
CaMKII is ubiquitously expressed and activated by Ca²⁺ and calmodulin (CaM), regulating cell cycle and transcription.
Four CaMKII isozymes (alpha, beta, gamma, delta) may be co-expressed in tissues.
CaMKII alpha is autophosphorylated on Thr286 upon Ca²⁺/CaM binding, a process known as Ca²⁺/CaM trapping, related to synaptic information encoding.
