Target Information
Angiogenin (ANG or ANG I) plays an essential role in neovascularization and new blood vessel formation. It is similar to pancreatic ribonuclease A and acts as a tRNA-specific ribonuclease, inhibiting protein synthesis by hydrolyzing cellular tRNAs. ANG interacts with endothelial cell-surface actin, influencing cytoskeletal organization. It is implicated in solid tumor development, and its antagonists can inhibit tumor growth. Mutations in ANG are associated with susceptibility to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis type 9 (ALS9), linking ANG genetically to ALS and Parkinson’s disease (PD).
