Target Information

IKBKE acts as an activator of nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-κB). Overexpression of IKBKE has been observed in breast cancer cells, and suppression induces cell death. NF-κB is a key transcription factor mediating immune and inflammatory responses. It is inhibited by IκB proteins in the cytoplasm until phosphorylation by the IKK complex (IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-γ). A novel molecule, IKK-ι/IKK-i, has been identified in this complex. IKK epsilon is essential for NF-κB activation by PMA and T cell receptors but not by TNF-α or IL-1. Expression of IKK-ι/IKK-i is inducible by TNF-α, IL-1, and LPS.
