Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in the detection of cool sensations, being activated by cold temperatures below 25°C. It is also activated by icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and intracellular pH modulation.
TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cations (Ca²⁺).
Expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with moderate expression in normal prostate tissue and elevated levels in prostate cancer.
TRPM8 mRNA has also been detected in nonprostatic tumors of breast, colon, lung, and skin origin, but is minimally expressed in corresponding normal tissues.
