Target Information
Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) is a dominantly inherited familial cancer syndrome that predisposes individuals to various malignant and benign tumors. Germline mutation of the VHL gene causes familial inheritance of VHL syndrome.
The VHL protein forms a complex with elongin B, elongin C, and cullin-2, exhibiting ubiquitin ligase E3 activity. It is involved in the ubiquitination and degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF), a transcription factor regulating oxygen-dependent gene expression.
RNA polymerase II subunit POLR2G/RPB7 is also reported as a target of VHL. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.
