Target Information
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme in the glycolytic pathway that converts pyruvate to lactate with concomitant interconversion of NADH and NAD+.
In mammals, LDH is encoded by three genes: LDHA (muscle form), LDHB (heart form), and LDHC (testis form).
Human LDHs share 84–89% sequence similarity and 69–75% amino acid identity.
There are five LDH isoenzymes formed by combinations of M and H chains in the tetrameric structure.
LDHA expression is hypoxia inducible and regulated by HIF1α, while LDHB is upregulated in many cancers.
Mutations in LDHA can cause Glycogen Storage Disease 11 (GSD11).
