Sheep anti-Paraquat antibody recognizes the herbicide Paraquat (N,N'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium dichloride) and shows the following reactivities with related pesticides:
- Monoquat: 5%
- Diquat
- Norfamaquat
Target Information
Paraquat (N,N'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium dichloride) is a widely used non-selective herbicide that acts quickly by destroying green plant tissue on contact. It is not translocated within the plant and does not affect mature bark. Paraquat is used to control a broad range of annual and certain perennial weeds that compete with crops for water, nutrients, and light.
Pure paraquat is highly toxic to mammals and humans if ingested, potentially causing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). There are no specific antidotes, and most fatalities are due to intentional ingestion.
