Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic function. Its proapoptotic activity is regulated via phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
