Target Information
This gene encodes the major vault protein, a lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures potentially involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. The protein mediates drug resistance, possibly via a transport process, and is widely distributed in normal tissues but overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells. Overexpression serves as a marker of clinical drug resistance. Two transcripts are produced using alternative exon 2 sequences, but both share the same open reading frame.
