Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase that functions in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation. MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx. MEK1 activation occurs via phosphorylation of serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1. It plays roles in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
