Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, which control cell growth and differentiation.
MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors and cytokines, as well as by membrane-dependent depolarization and calcium influx.
Mek1 is activated by phosphorylation at serine 218 and 222 residues by Raf1. It plays roles in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation.
Mutations in the MAP2K1 gene are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
