Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, controlling cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx. Mek1 activation occurs via phosphorylation at serine 218 and 222 residues by Raf1. It is involved in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
