Target Information
The CA8 gene encodes a protein originally named “CA-related protein” due to sequence similarity with carbonic anhydrases, although it lacks catalytic activity for CO₂ hydration. Despite this, it remains classified within the carbonic anhydrase family. Lack of CA8 expression in the cerebellum of lurcher mutant mice suggests its essential role in neurological function.
