Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It participates in intracellular transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane and is co-expressed with desmin during early cellular development. Vimentin also plays a role in steroid synthesis by facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria through cytoskeletal rearrangements induced by phosphorylation.
