Target Information
Neurexophilin-1 (NPH1/NXPH1), Neurexophilin-2 (NPH2/NXPH2), and Neurexophilin-3 (NPH3/NXPH3) belong to the Neurexophilin family of neuropeptide-like glycoproteins that are proteolytically processed after synthesis.
Neurexophilin-1–3 are secreted proteins functioning as signaling molecules that bind to target proteins such as neurexin I-alpha, which promotes adhesion between dendrites and axons and is essential for neurotransmitter release.
Neurexophilin-1 is primarily found in spleen tissue, Neurexophilin-2 mainly in kidney, and Neurexophilin-2/3 are highly expressed in brain.
Defects in the Neurexophilin-1 gene may be linked to schizophrenia.
