Target Information
Macroautophagy is the major inducible pathway for turnover of cytoplasmic constituents in eukaryotic cells. It mediates degradation of cytoplasmic enzymes and organelles during nutrient starvation through formation of double-membrane autophagosomes. These fuse with lysosomes to release autophagic bodies for degradation.
Apg9 plays a direct role in forming autophagic vesicles and may serve as a marker for specialized compartments essential for vesicle-mediated targeting pathways.
