IL-5는 B 세포와 호산구의 성장 및 분화를 촉진하는 사이토카인입니다. 이 단백질은 호산구 생성, 성숙 및 활성화의 주요 조절 인자로 작용하며, 과도한 IL-5 생성은 천식 및 과호산구 증후군과 관련이 있습니다. IL-5 수용체는 IL-3 및 GM-CSF 수용체와 β 서브유닛을 공유하는 이형이합체 형태입니다. IL-5, IL-4, IL-13, CSF2 유전자는 염색체 5q31의 사이토카인 유전자 클러스터 내에 존재하며, 장거리 조절 요소에 의해 공동 조절됩니다.
